Porcelain is a relatively new material for flat irons. Well even though I know a bunch about hair straighteners and have used more than a few, I can’t help but try out new materials. I’ve used the Babyliss Pro a couple of times now, and every single time all it takes to straighten hair is just a single stroke! Literally, no repeated effort and frustrating do-overs with this iron and material. So I decided to do some digging about porcelain and see exactly what makes this material so great for straightening hair.

BaByliss Pro Porcelain Plate Ceramic Flat Iron Review

Coming to the straightener, today I am going to speak all about Porcelain, and how it works. Why, if at all it is better than the other materials and whether it is worth the buck. So let’s get started and look at all the great as well average features that this Porcelain plated ceramic flat iron has to offer.

Why Porcelain?

The Babyliss Pro Porcelain Plate Ceramic Flat Iron comes with porcelain plates. Not only do they look extremely sleek, but they are also surprisingly effective at straightening even the toughest hair. Apart from the regular ceramic coating, the porcelain allows for better, more even heat conduction along the plates. The ceramic coating prevents heat from dissipating quickly, and the porcelain releases negative ions that help to smooth hair while emitting far-infrared heat simultaneously, thus preventing your hair from losing its sheen.

The Babyliss Pro offers porcelain plates in 3 different sizes of width, so you can choose the size that best suits your hair. The sizes on offer include 1”, 1.5” and 2 inches. Depending on the length of your hair, you should choose either the 1.5” or 2 inch model for better results.

High Heat – No Problem!

The iron gets hot faster than most, so it’s ideal for getting ready in a hurry. It can easily heat up to 450 degrees which is the maximum temperature required for any genetically curly hair. You can even lower down easily and set the temperature that best suits your hair. Quick is the mantra here; it heats up quick. No more need to set those annoying morning alarms just to get your hair straight right in time do go out. Isn’t that a relief!

While I’m not sure whether it’s the porcelain or the ceramic coating that helps emit the heat evenly, it’s sure good to feel the consistency with which the heat reaches your hair. Either way, you won’t have to deal with annoying hot and cool spots on the iron that delay your straightening and leave your hair half done. It not only saves you the energy but also time as you don’t need to go over one strand thrice.

 Price

A professional quality iron being offered at just 40$ damn now that’s what I call good news in the girls world. Larger ones cost a little more than the usual size, but I can assure you they don’t cost more than 50$. Considering the potential, you have to accept that it’s pretty great.  One for All & All with One!

The iron comes with the capability to deal with any and all hair types. So, you need not worry, if you your hair is super fine or super thick or even coarse with big volume like most African American hair. This iron is designed in such a way that it will not disappoint you.

This iron isn’t all roses and sunshine, however, and it does have it’s share of drawbacks:

Drawbacks

Short Life: Unlike some higher end models that guarantee durability and quality service for several years, this Babyliss Pro has been found lacking in this department. While there are customers, including some close friends that testify to its staying power, the majority have faces technical issues with this product in the long run. There have been several legitimate reports regarding the internal wiring of this Iron as well as reports of short circuits. For the best usage, it is advised to handle the Iron with the utmost care.

Not the Best Babyliss: Babyliss is capable or much better, and they proved that over and over with their higher end products.  Not to say that the Babyliss Pro is poor quality. However, it doesn’t compare too well with the other costlier Irons and wands that Babyliss has to offer.

This Babyliss Weighs Less: I love the fact that this weighs as much as a feather. What’s important to me is usability and effectiveness. The key factor that affects those, apart from build and quality, is maneuverability. Being light weight great enhances your ability to control direction as well as speed. However, at the same time, this Iron can’t take much of a beating. So, you need to be careful not to drop over and over.

Apart from the above drawbacks, the Babyliss Pro Porcelain Plate Ceramic Flat Iron makes for a great travel iron as well as everyday straightener if you can use it with care and patience.
