Capsule makeup is becoming more trendy by the day, so I think it’s time we give it a try! Learn more about how to create your capsules to save time and effort.

Create Your Own Capsule Makeup Collection

What is a capsule makeup collection, I hear you ask? Well, it’s basically a workable little capsule of things you use every day. It allows for an easier thought process, which in turn gives you more minutes to spend on other things — like actually eating breakfast for a change! With a capsule makeup collection, you don’t have to think about what to put on tomorrow and the next because you already have the basic items in one little capsule.

Step 1: Downsize

My thought process is to start with downsizing my personal kit. If you think this is hard, think again. Even for a makeup geek like me, I can already recall the many times I’ve given away unused makeup or makeup I don’t need anymore and we can start there. Sometimes we get too attached to our makeup collection we even find ways to fix broken items, in this case, forget about that and really pin down what you need.

Go through your kit and assess which ones you barely- if not never, use. Those that are really old, throw them away. Do not give them to people as they are harbingers of bacteria. Those that do not match your skin tone or personality but are clean and not expired, give them out.

Step 2: The Essentials

Now that you’ve trimmed down your kit, pick your everyday staples. I’m thinking to create a capsule makeup collection for day to night wear and mini collections for each season. Another idea is to create an everyday capsule makeup kit and a separate glam collection for when I have to go to events.

Discard what’s not needed and those which are old. You don’t want to have this many makeups.

Step 3: Start Your Capsule Makeup Collection

I’m going to list down key pieces in my would be capsule collection to give you an idea, but take note that I don’t like wearing a lot of makeup so your staples and mine can very well be different. When I think of staples, I immediately think of these key pieces:

Everyday Capsule Makeup Collection:

And when I have my basic everyday capsule makeup collection, I’m thinking to create “mini” collections, things that I can add on to the basic capsule collection for specific events.

Glam Capsule Makeup Collection:

This whole capsule makeup thought process is making me think about whether to buy new products or not, but since it’s part of my professional endeavor to keep up-to-date, I feel like I can’t limit myself to not buying, but perhaps I can immediately dispose off new stuff that I figured I won’t use or does not work for me or immediately disposing items that have been replaced with a newer product.

I understand that not everyone has the need to keep up-to-date, so if you are that person may be holding off from giving into cheap thrills at the drugstore makeup aisle or from buying within the next six months might be a good idea to keep your kits free of excess makeup you don’t need. You know if you think about it, this practice can extend to other things like your clothing and hair accessories and nail polish collections.

Just watching that video makes me feel so positive about doing this. I feel like this is going to be such a healthy practice for me but it will also take much discipline to keep up with. I hope writing down my thought process is helping you out if you’re one to consider this new trend.
